Hoffman Automotive Machine Inc. could just as easily be named Hoffman Automotive Machine & Welding Inc. For many machine shops welding is a necessary evil. That is definitely not the case for us. Back in the 80's I embraced welding as an integral part of cylinder head development. I devoted countless hours to developing not only my T.I.G. welding technique, but also the proper method for pre-heating and post-cooling castings. Much trial and error went into this process, and I quickly came to realize that the more I learned about each, the better the machinability, and therefore reliability, of the repaired casting. There are no shortcuts. In 1996, after using the "industry standard" casting oven for many years, I developed my own casting oven for pre-heating and postcooling. This oven uses sophisticated thermostat electronics that are accurate to within 3 degrees of my setting. Compare this to the 15 or so degrees available in the current "automotive industry standard" who shall remain unnamed here. This, combined with enough insulation to winterize an igloo and a sizable heat sink, allow for very even heating and precise control over casting temperatures, heating rates and cooling rates. To this day I still personally do all of the welding, and with nearly 20 years of cast aluminum repair experience I can say with confidence that Hoffman Automotive Machine Inc. offers the highest quality cast aluminum welding service in the business. Period. |
